Every culture has its own symbols of love.
In Hazara Afghan tradition, the Green Veil is one of them.
What green represents
The colour green represents paradise, peace, blessings and prosperity. As the veil is gently placed over the bride, it symbolizes the heartfelt wishes and prayers of both families for a marriage filled with love, harmony and happiness.
Carrying heritage forward
The Green Veil is carried into the celebration by young women dressed in traditional Afghan attire, honouring the beauty of our heritage and passing these traditions from one generation to the next.
The Neshān Ring
Alongside the Green Veil, another meaningful tradition is the presentation of the Neshān Ring.
Unlike the wedding bands exchanged during the ceremony, the Neshān Ring is a separate gift traditionally presented to the bride by the groom’s mother when the families formally agree to the marriage. It symbolizes acceptance, respect and the beginning of the bond between the two families.
